One of the unexpected byproducts of the Freddie Gray case has been the public fascination with Baltimore City state's attorney Marilyn Mosby, who, during the course of one 21-minute press conference went from virtual unknown to one of the most famous women in the country. Predictably, this lightening-fast ascendency to media darling has proven divisive, with her detractors accusing her of courting the attention and her fans championing her as a positive role model—a smart, driven, tough prosecutor making the most of her moment.

In a move sure to further inflame her critics and delight her supporters, Mosby can currently be found in the glossy pages of a slew of fashion magazines, including, most notably, Vogue, for which she was snapped by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz. The accompanying 2,200-word profile is a good read, delving into Mosby's upbringing in Massachusetts as the daughter, granddaughter, and niece of police officers; her time as the only black student at a prestigious high school in the Boston suburbs; her courtship and marriage to councilman Nick Mosby; her appearance at the recent Prince concert; and her response to criticism that she acted too hastily in bringing charges against the six officers involved in Freddie Gray's death at the height of Baltimore's springtime unrest. The other profiles, in Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire, respectively, trod much the same ground, but have less space to get into the complexities that the Vogue piece does. We also suggest reading our Q&A with Mosby conducted in late December just before she was sworn in as the city's chief prosecutor.

Of course, no matter what Mosby does, her name will be attached to headlines for years to come, as the Freddie Gray case makes it way through the courts of law and public opinion. In fact, today's mysterious leak of Gray's autopsy report has unleashed another round public speculation over the case and Mosby's role in it, which—in modern fashion—is playing out in the comments sections of each piece.
