Local Pie made its last rounds on Tuesday night.

When it opened in December 2014, the farm-to-table pizza shop at 8 W. Pennsylvania Ave. in Towson, owned by Lisa Heckman and Peter Wood (formerly of Mt. Vernon’s Iggie’s), was a blessing for the ’burbs.

The duo sold Iggie’s last July hoping to make a go of it in Baltimore County. But it was a tough go in Towson.

“We made a mistake,” says Heckman. “I’ve always lived by the premise that if the food is good, people will come, but people don’t come to eat in downtown Towson. They come for the mall and the perception, even though it wasn’t true, is that there is no parking. This is our fault. We should have realized this ahead of time.”

While Local Pie opened, Heckman says, “It was a struggle. The bad winter weather was difficult, but we should have seen the writing on the walls. We’ve learned so many lessons from this.”

Currently, the couple is taking a break from pizza-making.

We’re looking forward to following their next act.
