After a lengthy search, MICA's Board of Trustees has chosen Samuel Hoi to succeed Fred Lazarus, who is retiring after 36 years as the school's president. Hoi is currently president of Otis College of Art & Design and will move from Los Angeles to Baltimore to start July 1 at MICA. He comes with a reputation for establishing community-engagement intitiatives, which figures to be a good match for MICA at this point, and bolstering enrollment and endowments. Hoi was also dean at the Corcoran School of Art + Design, so he should be familiar with the Baltimore/D.C. region.
