Plans for Light City Baltimore call for the Inner Harbor, pictured here, to contain 20 art installations.
The city's Office of Promotion & The Arts wants artists and community members to share ideas for a festival called Light City Baltimore.
Set to occur in 2016, Light City Baltimore will celebrate "art, music, and innovation," according to a news release. It stops short of defining exactly what that means, and says instead, "festival details will be officially announced at a later date."
So far, the Light City Baltimore debut hasn't been the most organized. In February, media reports began mentioning the festival, the brain child of local marketing firm What Works Studio. Members of its steering committee compared it to South by Southwest in Austin, TX, and Australia's Vivid Sydney.
A Baltimore Business Journal story called it an "innovation conference" that would focus "on medical, educational and environmental tech." A Baltimore Sun article mentioned plans for concerts and 20 light installations around the Inner Harbor.
In order to get input, the city is holding two idea sessions on April 11 and April 25 at MICA's Brown Center and the Baltimore Museum of Industry, respectively, where you can connect with planners.
We at Baltimore magazine are hoping to talk more to organizers in the coming weeks, so stay tuned. In the meantime, what would you like to see as part of Light City Baltimore?
